Shelby McDonald is an emerging writer from Berkeley, California. She is currently pursuing an MFA in Fiction and Nonfiction at The New School. She teaches creative writing in schools around New York City.

My in-progress novel follows Lula, who is fourteen when an injury derails her dream to dance professionally and sends her into a life of drugs, sex, and increasingly dangerous decisions.

My debut publication is forthcoming in The North American Review in 2025. “Don’t Worry” is a short story excerpted from my in-progress novel.
